Known for its grace and beauty, the kudu is a symbol of the untamed spirit of the wilderness. It was on a safari expedition, guided by the silent steps of a regal kudu, that we discovered the unique botanicals that now infuse our gin.
As the kudu led us through sunlit savannahs and shadowed forests, we encountered the treasures of the land - vibrant juniper Berries, Angelica Roots, Aromatic Coriander and sweet Orange Pees. Each botanical, touched by the spirit of the kudu, was carefully gathered to create a gin that embodies the essence of Africa. Our gin is more than a drink; it’s a journey. With every sip, you are transported to the heart of the African wilderness, guided by the grace and majesty of the kudu. Sourcing the Botanicals
The creation of KuDu Gin begins deep in the heart of Africa, where our journey starts with the careful selection of the finest botanicals. Each ingredient is chosen for its unique flavour profile, cultural significance, and connection to the African landscape.
Botanical Preparation
Once the botanicals are gathered, they are transported to our distillery, where the preparation process begins. The botanicals are carefully cleaned, dried, and weighed to achieve the perfect balance of flavours. Each botanical is then stored in controlled conditions to maintain its freshness and potency until it’s ready to be distilled.
Distillation
The heart of KuDu Gin’s production lies in the distillation process. Our gin is crafted using a traditional copper pot still, which ensures a smooth, refined spirit with rich, well-rounded flavours. Maceration: The selected botanicals are macerated in a neutral grain spirit for several hours, allowing the alcohol to absorb the essential oils and flavours from the botanicals.
Slow Distillation: The macerated spirit is then distilled slowly, allowing the flavours to develop fully. As the vapour rises through the still, it carries with it the essence of the botanicals, which are then condensed into a liquid form. This slow process is essential for capturing the delicate flavours and aromas that define KuDu Gin.
Blending and Proofing
After distillation, the gin is carefully blended with pure, filtered water to achieve the desired alcohol content. This step, known as proofing, is done with precision to ensure that the gin’s flavour profile remains balanced and true to its original character.
Resting and Quality Control
The gin is allowed to rest for a period, which helps the flavors to mellow and integrate, resulting in a smoother, more harmonious spirit. During this time, our master distiller conducts rigorous quality control checks, tasting and testing each batch to ensure that it meets the high standards of KuDu Gin.
Bottling
Once the gin has reached its peak quality, it’s ready to be bottled. Each bottle of KuDu Gin is filled, sealed, and labelled by hand, ensuring attention to detail and a personal touch in every bottle. The design of our bottles is inspired by the African wilderness, with elegant depictions of the kudu and elements of the savannah, making each bottle a work of art in itself
